Hip-Hop is in a current state where we are rapidly experiencing an emergence of gifted, intrepid and talented lyricists who are grounded in the pursuit of exceeding all odds and inspiring those who experience similar trials and tribulations as they do.

North Miami native of Haitian decent, Miami-Dade Business Associates Degree recipient, and Pandemonium Recordings lead artist Prez P is the emerging champion of his city. Not only does he embody the characteristics stated above; he’s recently marked himself in history; his track “Play Dat Funk” received a placement on the soundtrack for the Academy Award Winning Film, “Moon Light“. Produced by ShowOff Beatz, the song was selected to be placed in the film and then later added to the film’s complete soundtrack’s listing. Cviddy TV sat exclusively with the cover artist where he shared the secret to his success is a simple formula; ambition. Prez shared that the entire experienced only motivated him to work harder and remain hungry.  Prez P shared that his vision started while he was young and all that he’s been able to accomplish is due to the support of all those who have nurtured, guided and mentored him from day one. Keeping familial bonds at the core of his camp is what makes him more than artist and a true leader.

Under G&G Management, Prez P is currently working on his debut studio LP “Prezidential“; where he aspires to recapture some of that Oscar glory as he sets his sights on furthering his stride within the music industry. Prez P has collaborated with heavy hitters such as Miami’s own The Pyrvmids and Mississippi based producer Fly Walker. P shares that the album will be monumental, as he is ensuring only hits make the final cut and refuses to share a release date only because he feels that time is on his call. Prez P recently showcased his talents during an intimate set during #Sessions @ Side-Bar, where the artist performed and shared he is most certainly proud to be a Miami representative because he embodies the soul of the city; which is to shed the light on the underdog and those who never forget where they come from. They say black boys look blue in the moonlight; however Prez P, a humble and dedicated artist, is outshining all of the competition, illuminating the start to a glorious hip-hop influence; the rising sun of his city.

Interview Highlights:

How did your single “Play That Funk” make it to the Academy Award Wining film, Moonlight?

“Shout out to my homie Travis Bowe, he’s featured on the song. Trav and I had a show in Bahamas where we opened up for K-Camp and that’s were we met each other. When he came to Miami we did the song.  It took us about 45 minutes to hour to complete the track, which is produced by my boy Showoff Beatz. A couple of months later we released the video, which was shot in Wynwood.  I woke up one day with a email from someone who was doing a soundtrack for a Miami based movie and they wanted my song for a scene. All I knew it was drug and money scene and I was cool with it. Months later the movie came out and started doing crazy numbers and we started getting Golden Globes and Oscars.”

How did you feel at that moment when Moonlight won Best Picture at the 2017 Oscars?

“I was bugging, it was Steve Harvey moment for me. It was dope, I thought they didn’t win so I put my phone down and I was done with the Oscars for the night and then 10 minutes later my manager hit my phone and he’s like….

“Bruh why you sound like that, you ain’t hype? “You ain’t see what just happened?”

“I went back and seen it and I was like wow, that’s crazy as hell. Since then I’ve been juiced up.”

Tell us about your highly anticipated project Prezidential ?

Prezidential is my debut album to the world and we’re going to drop this album really big. I’ve been working on it for almost two years now. With this situation (Moonlight soundtrack  placement) it’s making me know for sure that this is it right now, this is the moment. I’ve been taking my time with the project, it’s all big records with different producers from all over. I went to different states to record over the past two years, so I’ve just been plotting. Prezidential is going to be a big album. It’s coming but I have no date for it.”

On your track with Billy Blue you said “North Miami raised a problem, a pioneer with so much land to conquer,” what doe that mean to you?

When you think of pioneer you think of someone who went to different lands and made a statement everywhere he went. That’s how I look at myself.

Who can we expect to be on the album?

“I got a song called “No Counterfeit,” on the album produced by Nard & B. Feature wise, I got my boy Bizzy Crook on there, Billy Blue, Travis Bowe, Jay Burner, Sylvan LaCue, Darkside Bay Bay. Also, on I production I got  FlyWalker, ShowOff Beatz, Og Shaun and The Pyramids. It’s fire!”
